Special Topics in Oviedo: Poetry and Creative Writing in Spain


Program Overview

This spring quarter 2017 program features two courses taught by Jesús Sepúlveda from the Department of Romance Languages during the first half of the program. The two courses will be Creative Writing (Spanish 410) and Poets on the Edge (Spanish 407). The course work will be complimented with class visits by local Spanish writers and poets who will help students explore the literary scene of Oviedo and Spain. The second half of the program will be an intensive Spanish language course taught at the University of Oviedo in the Casa de las Lenguas (ELE). In-class learning is complemented by field trips, guided visits to local sites of interest and other group activities that are included in the program fee. 

Academic Details

Students will be enrolled in 18 total quarter credits for the program. The first half of the program will consist of two 4 credit courses, Creative Writing (Spanish 410) and Poets on the Edge (Spanish 407) taught by Jesús Sepúlveda. The second half of the program will consist of an intensive Spanish language course taught at the University of Oviedo’s Casa de las Lenguas (ELE). Students will enroll in an intermediate or advanced level course consisting of 60 hours of Spanish language (grammar and composition) plus 20 hours of Spanish culture and civilization, concentrating on up to two of the following topics: conversation on Spanish Society and Culture; Spanish/Hispanic American Literature; Spanish History/Art History or Business Spanish.
